TrustR Launches to Protect Millions of iOS Users Worldwide from Security Vulnerabilities, Privacy Issues and Malicious Functionality(0) According to Apple’s Mar 2012 Keynote over 315 million iOS devices have been sold worldwide along with an inaccurately adopted notion that these post-PC devices were free from the security risks posed by their seemingly more exposed predecessors. As news of iOS security breaches and privacy issues become commonplace Rookie Systems launch TrustR, an iOS app that scans installed applications for security and privacy issues and notifies users of risks along with qualified and comprehensible information to aid resolution. Reported security issues range from vulnerabilities due to coding, insecure sharing of user credentials or information, privacy violations, address book theft and even deliberately malicious features and attempted virus distribution. With a large amount of data stored on the average iOS device, keeping that data protected from these risks is a priority for every iOS user and TrustR connects to an ever-updating database of expert identified risks to inform users of identified problems along with proposed solutions. TrustR has so far identified risks in 1,000s of applications including; PayPal, Skype, Path, iFileExplorer and Meeps, and similar to traditional virus scanning software on a PC TrustR offers users both peace-of-mind as well as actionable information should a security risk be found. TrustR can be installed on any iOS device to help protect it’s contents and also supports jailbroken devices – where root access dramatically increases possible risks and the need to operate only trusted software. “Most users assume that their iOS devices are 100% secure, however recent developments have highlighted a series of vulnerabilities, privacy issues and hidden malicious functionality within certain apps.” commented Nicklas Wolff of Rookie Systems, creators of TrustR. “TrustR scans the installed apps on a device and identifies security and privacy risks, allowing users to take the necessary action – install an update or remove the offending app – to keep their device secure.” TrustR, the new security solution for iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch is available now in the App Store at: http://itunes.apple.com/app/trustr/id466918294?mt=8. For more information or media inquiries, contact Mark Johnson of appshout! on behalf of Rookie Systems at +1-408-757-0156 or press(at)myappshout(dot)com. |

Mom Creates Interactive Storybook App for Tweens(0) Julie Landry Laviolette, a mom and longtime journalist, has created Story Bayou, a series of interactive storybook apps that kids can read on the iPad, iPod touch, Kindle Fire, smartphones and tablets. Story Bayou (a play on “Story By You”) engages elementary- and middle-school age children in a literary journey by putting them in the driver’s seat and casting them as the main character. The book apps, written in second person, “your” voice, allow kids to choose how the action unfolds during critical points in the plot. Reach an ending, go back, make new choices and explore a different path.. “Parents can hand their smartphone to their child and get them to read instead of playing another video game,” said Laviolette, mom of a 9- and 11-year-old. “As a mom, I look for tools that will help my kids become lifelong readers. It makes sense to harness the technology they love and offer books in a format they are comfortable using.” Story Bayou’s first book app, Brush of Truth, is geared to third- through sixth-graders. It introduces a medieval sorceror’s magic paintbrush that’s discovered in modern time by two tweens. With 65 decision points and 20 possible endings, Brush of Truth leads the kids on adventures under the sea, in floating graveyards and inside sand castles, among others, as they discover the brush’s powers. Brush of Truth is $1.99 and available in the iTunes, Android, Windows 7 and Amazon app marketplaces. Story Bayou partnered with Linxter, Inc., a software development company in Cooper City, Fl., to create the mobile app. Laviolette is a former columnist and community news editor for The Times-Picayune newspaper in New Orleans. As a South Florida resident, she now contributes regularly to The Miami Herald, South Florida Sun-Sentinel, MomsMiami.com, South Florida Parenting and more than 30 regional parenting publications in the United States and Canada. Brush of Truth is her first work of fiction. Story Bayou was founded in August 2011. It’s first app, Brush of Truth, was released in February 2012. |

Cutting-edge COVERit App Uses Your iPhone® In An Original Way(0) This new breed of app unlocks iPhone’s potential, allowing users to manufacture their own customized paper cover. COVERit allows an iPhone® or iPod Touch® to change its style daily and be protected from everyday jostling. With COVERit, everyone can easily make their own individualized paper case for their mobile device. This remarkable app combines multiple iOS technologies allowing the user to operate the camera and the wireless print function as well as send email and view web video. The user first takes a new picture or uses an image from the camera roll and then edits the image and adds text if desired. COVERit merges this edited image with one of its fold guideline templates. COVERit then prints directly to a wireless printer or sends the customized template to any email for home printing. The user watches the “how to” video and folds the new cover. The whole process from opening COVERit until folding the completed cover takes about 5 minutes. COVERit has another distinctive feature. It operates in three languages. The user has a choice of making the cover with directions in English , Spanish or Portuguese. This app may change the way people think of covering their mobile devices worldwide. COVERit allows the user to make covers in two styles. The pouch offers maximum protection against other objects stuffed in a pocket or bag and its construction requires a small piece of tape. The open face offers complete finger-tip functionality of the screen at all times and requires a scissors and a hole punch for completion. Glossy paper gives the cover a brilliant shine; however, regular computer paper works well also. The COVERit app can be used successfully with any printable paper. Users are encouraged to experiment with photo paper, card stock, colored paper, tracing paper or construction paper. COVERit can be used to make a unique cover for every day or any occasion. Applications for COVERit are limited only by the imagination of the user. Purchasing the app for a one-time cost of $.99 allows one to use it over and over again. |

iHangy Lets iPhone / iPod Lovers Hang with Their Apple Devices All Day Long(0) High school students, college coeds and young professionals who can’t live without their iPhones and iPods can now keep constant tabs on their technological addiction with the new iHangy. Backed by OnTrion, the manufacturer of premium mobile phone batteries, the iHangy comes in two varieties, a necklace and a keychain, both of which include a touchpen. iHangy is designed to hang securely around the neck or to attach to clothing, bags and purses so that one’s iPhone / iPod is always within easy reach. The product line is compatible with the iPhone 4S, 4, 3GS and 3 models as well as the iPod Touch, Shuffle, Nano and Classic. According to the Pew Internet & American Life Project, an estimated 12 percent of 18- to 24-year-olds and 14 percent of 25- to 34-year-olds now own an iPhone. Based on 2010 U.S. Census data, those figures add up to approximately eight million iPhone owners in the U.S. alone among those younger age brackets. Moreover, an Apple spokesperson estimates that 300 million iPods have been sold since the product was launched 10 years ago. Of those, 45 million of have been purchased in the last year (July 2010 to June 2011). All of that adds up to a lot of young adults with an Apple smartphone and/or music / video device attached to their ear on any given day. But with price tags for the newest iPhones in the several-hundred-dollar range and the iPod Touch trailing not far behind, misplacing, stepping on and breaking or outright losing one of these high-tech gadgets can be financially devastating. A new product by OnTrion, the manufacturer of OEM-quality mobile phone batteries, keeps consumers’ investment safe at all times by securing their Apple device to their body. The iHangy necklace appeals to fashion-conscious young women who want to make a statement with their accessories. It comes in pink, white and black color palettes to coordinate with any outfit. For the young men or non-jewelry female fans who are addicted to their iPhone or iPod, iHangy also comes in a keychain variation that clips to their belt loop, backpack or purse. For more information on how to remain hands free while keeping constant tabs on an iPhone or iPod, visit http://www.ihangy.com for product information.
