Mom Creates Interactive Storybook App for Tweens

Story Bayou (a play on “Story By You”) engages elementary- and middle-school age children in a literary journey by putting them in the driver’s seat and casting them as the main character.

The book apps, written in second person, “your” voice, allow kids to choose how the action unfolds during critical points in the plot. Reach an ending, go back, make new choices and explore a different path..

“Parents can hand their smartphone to their child and get them to read instead of playing another video game,” said Laviolette, mom of a 9- and 11-year-old. “As a mom, I look for tools that will help my kids become lifelong readers. It makes sense to harness the technology they love and offer books in a format they are comfortable using.”

Story Bayou’s first book app, Brush of Truth, is geared to third- through sixth-graders. It introduces a medieval sorceror’s magic paintbrush that’s discovered in modern time by two tweens. With 65 decision points and 20 possible endings, Brush of Truth leads the kids on adventures under the sea, in floating graveyards and inside sand castles, among others, as they discover the brush’s powers.

Cronote Releases New iPhone App for Scheduling Future Messages

The Cronote Reminders iPhone app is now available. The app provides a clean and efficient interface for scheduling email and text message reminders. Cronote Reminders is unique: it sends reminders automatically to any email address or US cell phone number. Traditional reminder apps do not send reminders to other people. They only function as local notifications. In addition, other text message reminder apps require the user to manually approve each message before it is sent.

The app’s user interface was designed to minimize the time needed to schedule a reminder. Contacts are accessible via a single finger swipe, and reminders can be sent to multiple recipients at the same time. The iPhone app also allows users to create recipient groups, a useful feature for sending reminders to friends and family. Cronote charges five cents per text message reminder but does not charge for email reminders. New users receive ten free text message reminders. Past and present reminders are stored in the Cronote database. Users can view reminders they have received as well as reminders they have pending to be sent. Did You Know That MusicParty Shares iPhone Music Safely?

KAYAC Inc., has released an iPhone app called MusicParty which is now available in the Apple iTunes App store. MusicParty allows the user to share their music with their friends in close proximity.

MusciParty also allows a user’s friends to share music with through bluetooth or wireless to their iPhone. It can share music with up to five people.

To use MusicParty, a user creates a ‘Party” in the app. Others can start the app on their iPhone and if they are in close proximity via bluetooth or wireless, they can add tracks to the user’s “Party.” The user selects the music tracks that they want to play. Up to five people including the “Party” orginatory can share music. Once the user’s phone is out of range of the other phones then the “Party” is disconnected and the user will have to create a new “Party.” This app can be useful for parties, roadtrips or events where a music background is needed.
