User Reviews of Energy Take Classic 5.1 Speakers

Pros: At this price, I think anyone would be hard pressed to find a better sounding 5.1 set-up. They are well built and the clarity of sound is quite good. The sound scene reproduction is not the most accurate, but good enough in stereo playback. Surround is also good, but I am still tweaking it for now.

Cons: Do not expect to fill a huge room with these small affordable speakers. I have a Pioneer 1020-K receiver and have to raise the volume quite a bit to get loud playback. I also find there is a rather large hole in the mid-low range right around the 100-125Hz, which happens to be the distance between the bass filter frequency on the receiver and the lowest end the small satellites will reach. The effect is the typical lightening of a large female voice or lack of depth. Again, I am still tweaking the settings after weeks and maybe I’ll find a way to get rid of the hole in frequency without losing the overall balance and clarity that these speakers seem to have at all level.

I would recommend these to anyone wanting to buy an affordable set for a basic 5.1 surround system. Keep them in a small enclosed room though for best results.

Pros: I have the Micro 5.1s and could not be happier. It was a toss up between these and the Micros. Both get excellent reviews. Only reason I went with the Micros is because of size. I have a small living room and wanted as small a footprint as possible. The sound is amazing for the price.

Cons: The only con is that due to their size when the volume is raised they dance around my entertainment table. Little rubber feet fixed that.

Look at Mirage and and Difinitive Technology. For twice the price you can have just as good of sound. Save some clams and spend it on a better receiver.

Pros: I wanted and got very clear sound at all volume levels.
The frequency range just seems perfectly balanced at all volume levels.

Cons: center speaker difficult to place (size and/or mounting awkward?)–probably same issue with all center speakers except bar type.
I used to work in stereo store when (much) younger, so I didn’t want the muffled sound that Polk has a reputation. I bought when these included outdoor speaker pair which also works well.
Well worth the price. I am not sure if I would have been happier with anything else at any price!
